Pope Falls In Finale
Wednesday, 16 April 2008
In their final match of the season, the BV fell to Fellowship Christian 2-1 at the Hound Pound.  Tyler Barcelli lifted a long ball over the outstretched arms of the Paladins GK for Pope's only goal.  Tony Benedetto assisted.  Senior Brian Gaid played the field for awhile in the first half as senior Mark Lisivick kept the goal.  Seniors Jared Carroll and Pierre Naude anchored the back line just as they have all season while Philipp Lindenlaub, Chris Wolcoveick and Chris Hammond "mixed it up" in the midfield and the attacking third.  Good luck in your future pursuits gentlemen!
The Lady Greyhounds hosted the Lovett Lions just prior to the boy's match and also fell by a score of 2-1.  In a tune-up match for the state playoff match coming up next week, Shepard Stafford had the only strike off a feed from Ryann Davie.  The Ladies host Grayson next Wednesday at the Hound Pound in first round action.

BV Finishes Region Schedule With Victory
Monday, 14 April 2008
In a topsy-turvy match at Southern Polytechnic State University, the Greyhounds BV defeated the Wheeler Wildcats 5-4.  After falling behind 0-2 early in the first half, and then trailing 1-3 shortly after the second half kickoff, the Greyhounds 'found' their attack and rallied with four goals to take a 5-3 advantage into the last thirteen minutes of the match.  With less than nine minutes remaining Wheeler closed the gap to what would be the final margin of 5-4.  Pope's scoring came from senior Jared Carroll (2), juniors Mark Gabriel and Colin McNew, and sophomore Dan Kuegemann.  Kuegemann also recorded two assists.  The BV finished their region schedule at 6-5 with one remaining non-region match to be played Wednesday at the Hound Pound against Fellowship Christian at 7:00.

"Lotsa" Soccer
Saturday, 12 April 2008
Due to severe weather on Friday night, three matches of the Greyhound Invitational were played on Saturday at the Hound Pound.  The first action of the day kicked off at 1:00 and was the continuation of the match between Pope and North Springs.  The final result was a 3-0 victory for Pope.  Scoring included a second goal for Dan Kuegemann on a shot from approximately twenty yards out and a header goal from Sean Pinto after a throw in from Harrison Fifield and a helping touch from Kuegemann.
The win put Pope into the very next match against Holy Innocents, the winner on Friday night against Providence Christian.  Sam Johnson of the Bears scored the only goal of the match, giving Holy Innocents the only unblemished record of the tournament.
Finally, North Springs met Providence Christian at 5:00 in the consolation match.  All of the scoring came from PCA in a 7-0 victory.  Senior John Demonbreun had a "hat trick" while junior Jonny Mercado and freshman Brent Hansen figured heavily in the "mix."  Mercado and Hansen each tallied a goal and two assists.  Senior Garrett Stryszko and freshman Taylor Sykes added goals with freshman Stephen Dubbert notching an assist.
Many thanks to all who participated!  Dates for the Greyhound Invitational in 2009 are Friday, April 3 and Saturday, April 4.
